6-chamber plastic airlock

6-chamber plastic airlock made from high quality PVC material. The material this airlock is made of had been certified by the Polish Hygiene Institute, permitting it for food contact. This product is fitted for openings in the rubber carboy / demijohn corks. The straight tubes of this device have two spherical bubbles split into three chambers each. They are supposed to reduce and slow down the evaporation of the water from the airlock. Thanks to this measure the contents of the carboy / demijohn are protected from oxygenation, while the carbon dioxide, a side product of the fermentation can still be released.

You may observe the changes that occur in the fermentation process thanks to the moving water column. Do remember to fill up water in the airlock chambers that evaporates steadily. This is absolutely crucial for the proper course of the process. Negligence in that regard may lead to oxidation of the forming ethanol to the unwanted acetic acid.

You may substitute water with another oily liquid that does not evaporate that quickly.
